The hula hoop drill shows how the body and arms work in unison. The hoop helps to illustrate some important fundamentals.
From the address position the arms start to swing back. The position of the hoop in relation to the body remains constant, indicating that the radius of the swing has remained the same. The left shoulder has moved to the right and the right shoulder is turning up and around as indicated by the patches. Although at this stage in the swing the arms and shoulders move the most, the hips have played their role by also turning a little.
